InnoWood – Study Tour in Styria

Wood industry companies, researchers and students took part in a study tour in styria on 17-18. of april, 2019. This was organised by Pannon Wood- and Furniture Industry Accredited Innovation Cluster in the frame of Interreg InnoWood ATHU059.

Participants of the study tour had the possibility to have an insight into the most innovative and most interesting wood industry enterprises and projects in the region.

At first they visited HIZ / ECW – Wood Innovation Center. Through the presentation they could learn new information at first hand about developement related to robotisation of wood industry.

At the factory of Stora Enso, wood industry giant, participants could follow the process from entering raw materialt to stock warehouse. This served as a great introduction for the following programs of the tour.

After lunch the team visited MESSNER Ges.m.b.H. company. The new production- and presentation hall was presented which was inaugurated just a couple of months ago. At the center of interest was the modern painting complex. They apply the most modern technologies in the field of yacht and boat enterieur.

On the nex day

Gaulhofer doors and windows manufacturer hosted the team. Gaulhofer has a 100 years of history and global market connections. Besides wooden doors and windows the company produces wooden- and alluminum, as well as plastic doors and windows. They do this by applying multiple technologies.  While working with wooden products happens through manual machining, other materials are processed almost entirely by automatic machines.

Second stop of the day was at a very special and innovative company. ThreeSixty Media Solution startup develops support solutions using the potential of VR technology (for companies in wood industry among others).

After lunch participants visited Holzbauforschung GmbH. They had the opportunity to watch experimental and practical presentations in the topic of wooden architecture. Opportunities offered by CLT technology gathered significant attention. This is specially important while couple of years ago the city of Graz started construction of a residental area for up to 10000 people. This area is going to consist of multi-storey wooden buildings, entirely constructed with CLT technology.

The meaningful day closed with presentation of Q7 building- and project area consisting of CLT storey- and passive buildings. Furthermore, getting to know plans of ecologic urban developement regarding the next decade.

The more than 30 members of the group could gather new and fascinating experiences in that short 2 days. Each of them described the study tour as successful and forward-looking.
